Sharing my life as a marathon runner...

I was amazed today when I headed out for my first real hill workout in about 6 weeks, that it really kicked my butt. The funny thing is that this is the same course I was knocking down easily back in early November and still yearning for more ... I guess that proves to me that I do have some work to do as far as my fitness goes. It feels more like i'm in training mode and not just running mode ... there is a difference you know. The last 4 weeks i've just been running to run, and not focusing on anything more.
I'm trying to find a 5k or something to run for the new year, but there doesn't seem to be much to offer here in the Lehigh Valley except for the First Night Bethlehem, which starts at 1pm ... its not worth taking a half day of work just to run a race. I also found another group, the jersey shore running club, that has some neat races and they aren't too far out, but again I can't make a 5:45pm start time in Lake Como, NJ, since its about a 2 hour ride ... (and again, not sure its worth 4 hours traveling and a half day of work just to run a 22 minute race)..
Oh well, i'm out of luck but will keep my eyes open ... this week looks to turn cold by mid-week and I may end up in Connecticut again this weekend, so my training may have to shift, but we'll still get the miles in one way or another ..

The Lehigh Valley Road Runners offers two events New Years Day. First is the annusl "Dip In Da Crick" a crossing of the Little Lehigh Creek directly behind the clubhouse. This is followed by an untimed run of 3 or 5 miles and also includes a free lunchon after the run.

Unfortunately I have to work on New Years Day. But that isn't going to stop me from starting the year off right. Im planning on running a 5K at 11:59 PM on NYE (in Philadelphia on Kelly Drive). Figure it's as good a way as any to kick off the new year.

It's scary how quickly it can go away...six weeks shouldn't get you like that! Oh well, just means you'll get to relive those old challenges ;)
